FEBRUARY 2022
Where to Begin?
Constant 'draw and sketch' is my starting place to become an artist/publisher.

Foundation
My educational background is in Fine Arts / Visual Design.
I earned an MFA degree from the University of Oregon back in the 1980s.
The 'microcomputer' (personal computer) revolution was just revving up
and my program had to do with artist's books and electronic publishing,
one of the first of its kind in the US.

Career
From school, I went to work in what we used to call 'multimedia', mostly working in computer animation.
I settled in Las Vegas and worked as a designer in the gaming industry for about twenty years.
Leaving Las Vegas
After 20+ years in Las Vegas, I made my way back to Oregon where I grew up.
Lovely Linda, myself, and our son, Craig make our home by the edge of the forest
near the Umpqua river a few miles outside of Myrtle Creek.
Our other kids are making their own way. Chelsea is in Seattle. Jack and Satomi are in Japan.

Fast Forward Back to Oregon
As a kid, I had fun playing along the river with all the woodland creatures nearby.
The wildlife and the scenic Oregon back country is sort of my inspiration.
Many of the unusual creatures that inhabit the illustrated scenes in my books
are playful interpretations of animals that I've met along the river in real life.

What I've Learned So Far
Creativity is a state of mind and art is about curiosity and asking questions.
I try to make simple, poetic observations that reflect my life and the world around me.
I ask myself, is this the world I want to live in?
Often, to make a better story, I have to make my life better.
The two sort of go together.

In the studio, I convert pencil doodles into digital illustration assets.
