Very often, I collaborate with
a grandmother (or great-grandmother) with a bucket-list dream to write and publish. Usually, there is a special grandchild for whom she wishes to dedicate her book.

How does it work?
The process is truly collaborative. There are daily progress reviews and discussions. The author's comments are incorporated into the design so the vision for the book stays on track. What does Anu say? As a first time author, I found the perfect partner in Chris! He is a master of his technical craft with a great eye for visual storytelling. He wields these powers to bring characters & scenes to life in highly original ways. He also runs a terrific process, allowing plenty of room for creative collaboration while keeping things well organized and moving forward. Plus, as an author himself, Chris is well versed in the publishing process. A book can be a good companion and even a best friend. Friends help each other by caring enough to find a tender way to tell us the hard truth. That's what books do. That's what friends are for. I call it 'personal publishing' because a celebration-of-life book comes from a deeper place. The process is a careful re-balancing of commercial versus personal. What does Shannon say? There is no amount of praise I can give Chris Hammond that will credit it for how amazing he is. I fully enjoyed working with him and feel.so blessed to have such an awesome illustrator. He was so helpful and worked with me for my book and illustrations. What does Karen say? Chris is the most talented book designer I have ever encountered. I have had the same story formatted by myself and by another professional. I did not embrace my book. So I decided to try again. Now that I have hired Chris, I can relax and embrace my beautiful book. He makes sharp decisions that add special touches to the book. It helped my story to pop out. In the 21st century, word-of-mouth comes in the form of social media - posts, views, likes, comments. What does Julie say? Chris was understanding and intuitive from the first time we discussed my project. He communicated clearly and was responsive to my feedback. He made the process much more comfortable and less overwhelming for a first-time author. I knew that the illustrations would be necessary to bring this book to life.
